Project description
The reform in
the management of motorised water pumps is one of the most innovative
programs in Senegal as far as water supply is concerned. The project covers
300 water pump stations and consists of many components:
• the state's disengagement from exploitation and maintenance activities
to the benefit of the private sector,
• the involvement of the local communities through an effort of
decentralization,
• the formation of water users associations,
• the appointment of either managers or representative administrators
for water services,
• the development of financial products that will allow users to
buy and renew the equipments at their own charge,
• concrete undertakings, involving the rehabilitation of existing
water pump stations, and the densifications and extension of water systems.
